webtrees is a web-based genealogy application written in PHP. It reads and writes GEDCOM, the standard file format used by desktop genealogy programs and family tree websites, so you can import your existing research and keep it compatible with other tools. It grew out of the earlier PhpGedView project and is maintained by an active open-source community.

Several family members can work on the same tree from any browser, and you can hold their changes for review before they go live. Privacy settings hide details about living relatives from the public, while pedigree charts, fan charts, and descendant trees help visitors explore your family's story. You can attach photos and documents to people and events, and host more than one tree on the same site.
