Vue.js Hosting Explained
What Is Vue.js Hosting?
Vue.js is the progressive JavaScript framework for building user interfaces. It's approachable enough for a single widget and capable enough for full single-page applications, and its official tooling, built on Vite, makes production builds quick.
When you run npm run build, Vite compiles your components into a dist folder of static files: index.html, JavaScript bundles, CSS, and assets. Because a client-side rendered Vue app runs in the browser, hosting it means serving those files quickly, returning index.html for any route Vue Router handles, and keeping everything on HTTPS.
That's a strong fit for web hosting. If you add server-side rendering with Nuxt, you'll need a Node.js process that stays running, which belongs on a VPS.

How to Deploy a Vue.js App on HostPapa
Getting a Vue app live on web hosting takes six steps, and none of them need a server-side runtime. Build locally or in CI, upload the output, and add one rewrite rule for routing.
Step 1: Build your app. Run npm run build in your project. Vite writes the output to a dist folder. Anything prefixed with VITE_ ends up in the public bundle, so keep private API keys out of those variables.
Step 2: Set your base path. Deploying to a subfolder like yourdomain.com/app? Set the base option in your Vite config and pass the same path to createWebHistory() in Vue Router.
Step 3: Upload your files. Copy the contents of dist, not the folder itself, into public_html using File Manager, your FTP client, or cPanel's Git Version Control.
Step 4: Add a rewrite rule. Vue Router's history mode handles URLs in the browser, so refreshing a page like /account/settings asks the server for a file that doesn't exist. Add an .htaccess file that turns on Apache's rewrite engine, skips real files and folders, and sends every other request to /index.html.
Step 5: Check HTTPS and caching. Confirm your Free SSL certificate is active, force HTTPS, and set long cache lifetimes for hashed assets while keeping index.html uncached so updates show up right away.
Step 6: Ship updates with confidence. Vite adds a content hash to your JavaScript and CSS filenames, so returning visitors only download what changed. Rebuild, upload, and your new release is live.

Pick the Right Environment
Web Hosting or VPS for Your Vue.js Project?
Choose web hosting if your Vue app is client-side rendered, you deploy a static build, and your data comes from third-party or existing APIs.
Choose a VPS if you use Nuxt with server-side rendering, run your own Node.js API next to the frontend, or deploy with Docker. Root access lets you install Node.js, run PM2, and configure Nginx.
Choose a dedicated server if your platform serves heavy production traffic or runs several services side by side.

Can I host a Vue.js app on shared web hosting?
Yes. A client-side rendered Vue app builds to static files that any HostPapa web hosting plan can serve. Upload the contents of dist to public_html and add a rewrite rule for routing.
How do I fix 404 errors with Vue Router history mode?
Add an .htaccess file next to index.html that rewrites requests for anything that isn't a real file or folder to /index.html. Vue Router then reads the URL and shows the right view.
Do I need Node.js on the server to host Vue.js?
Not for a client-side rendered app. You need Node.js on your machine or in CI to run the build, but the server only delivers static files. Nuxt server rendering needs Node.js on the server, which is what our VPS plans are for.
Can I host a Nuxt app on HostPapa?
Yes. A statically generated Nuxt site can go on web hosting. A Nuxt app with server-side rendering runs on a HostPapa VPS, where you can keep its Node.js server running with PM2 behind Nginx.
Does HostPapa include an SSL certificate for Vue.js hosting?
Yes. Every web hosting plan includes a Free SSL certificate, so your Vue app loads over HTTPS.
Does HostPapa offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes. Every plan is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee1, so you can deploy your Vue app and test performance risk-free.
