How to view email message headers in Outlook

Every email you receive includes message headers that contain valuable information. You don’t normally need to know what’s in those headers, but when you have email errors, those headers help HostPapa Support figure out what’s wrong. Follow these steps to view email message headers in Outlook.

  1. Open your Outlook.
  2. Locate the email message you want to view and double-click on it to open it outside of the Reading Pane.
  3. Go to File > Properties.
Note: Make sure you have the single email pop-up open for this. If you go to the File tab from the main Outlook window, you will not be able to see the Properties button.
  4. After you click the Properties button, another Properties window will open. The headers will appear next to the label Internet headers, at the bottom of the window.
Tip: Highlight the information from that box, then use Ctrl+C to copy, and paste it into a Word document or Notepad to see the entire header.
