How to fix the Password Reset Key error in WordPress

If you find yourself locked out of your WordPress website with the error ‘Could not save password reset key to database’ displayed on screen, the most likely cause is that you’ve used all available disk space allocated to your hosting account.

Before the error is displayed, you may find that attempts to log into your account are unsuccessful. The login page simply refreshes. When you subsequently try to reset your WordPress account password, the error is displayed.

To resolve the error, you’ll need to free up space on your server. Log into the HostPapa Dashboard and click My cPanel. Then select Files > cPanel File Manager.

Navigate to your WordPress root folder and select app/uploads.

cPanel File Manager

Search through your upload files to locate and delete large files that you may no longer need. Click the Size link to sort the list by file size. Take a look elsewhere on the server for files and folders you are happy to delete. Once you’ve created some space on your server, you can attempt to log into WordPress once again.

If you find yourself regularly hitting your storage limits, it may be time to upgrade your web hosting package, or take a look at HostPapa VPS hosting options.

If you notice any problems or if you need any help, please open a new support ticket from your HostPapa Dashboard. More details on how to open a support ticket can be found here.
